In July 2012, I woke up to a Drum cover that TORE my soul to shreds. It shattered my spirit, destroyed my dignity and for the very first time in my life, brought me to my knees. I thought about it today because a friend of mine asked me WHY it’s so difficult for some people to say ‘I’m sorry”. Written by a FEMALE Editor, I was accused of being in a ‘sex orgy’, taking part in a massive drug party and of aborting a child. A picture of me was placed on a cover, and I was quoted from an interview that never happened. I remember reading this article over the internet and collpasing to the ground. I. WAS. NUMB!

Many untrue things have been said about me in the media but for the very FIRST time, I felt like I needed to do something about it because this publication had gone too far. I contacted the office of the Press Ombudsman (who, by the way, are incredibly helpful), filed a complaint and FINALLY received a date for a hearing. The day did arrive- the hearing lasted a little over 4 hours and below is what the Ombudsman concluded from that hearing:

The ombudsman dismissed the complaint that Drum had published sensational material about Matheba as this was not in breach of the Press Code.
It had also breached the code for reporting the unsupported allegations of just one source that Matheba was a drug addict, featured in a sex tape and was a cheat, and for not pointing out that the allegations had not been verified.
The words “apparently” and “allegations” were not strong enough to warrant their publication, and this had caused Matheba unnecessary harm, the ombudsman found.
The magazine was directed to apologise on its front page and inside the magazine for publishing the medical records, for publishing unfounded allegations and not reporting that it was doing so, and for making up quotes or ascribing words to Matheba in the cover-lines.
It was also instructed to apologise for accepting and publishing allegations from an anonymous source without exercising reasonable care in questioning the source’s motives.

Months have passed, the pain has vanished and the apology…..well, it never came. Just made me think that sometimes- you HAVE to fight for what’s right even if the other party doesn’t ‘come to the party’ then, MOVE ON!!!  Remove the anger and the pain. Let go of the worry and pray for the strength to forgive and in this case, forget. I said to this friend of mine that most of the time, the ‘I’m sorry’ never comes. And most of the time waiting for it will only deter you from concentrating on the OTHER amazing things that are happening in your life, in your space.

In my case however, my soul and spirit were at peace knowing that I tried to stand up for myself and the many that will come after me.So many more wonderful things have happened since then, it would be an injustice to myself to focus on the negative or to expect another to acknowledge their wrong.I’ll never know the reasons why it happened but a small part of me is glad it did. I had hit rock bottom, I guess the only way now is UP!

So to you, MY FRIEND – Do what’s right, then move on… God will take care of the rest. Never try to get ‘even’ with anyone. It WILL hurt, we’re human, and that’s fine. God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.. It doesnt have to make sense to you now, but one day it will.

Smile, everything is going to be okay.

Have a great weekend… love, B*

Glitz, Glamour, Fashion and Horses with SABC3
SABC3’s ‘It’ girls to present LIVE at the J&B Met

On Saturday 2nd February, SABC3 will be adding an extra sparkle to one of Cape Town’s top fashion and racing events – the J&B Met, with SA’s ultimate authorities in glamour presenting live from the red carpet.

‘It’ girls Jeannie D and Bonang Matheba will be reporting live from the frontlines at Cape Town’s Kenilworth Race Course, along with the fashionista himself, Somizi Mhlongo, joined by sports presenter Vaylen Kirtley . As the hosts of this prestigious event, the four presenters will bring up-to-the-minute horse racing, fashion news, action and the low down from behind the scenes right to the viewers’ living rooms. Expect live interviews, celebrity fashion, designer do’s and don’ts, and their votes on the best (and worst) dressed.

They’ll be needing plenty of help from the armchair critics, so viewers need to follow @SABC3 on Twitter and tweet them their expert fashion advice for the stars! Remember, the official hashtag for this event is #MetOnSABC3.

As the lifestyle anchor, Jeannie D will be stationed at fashion central, on the J&B red carpet. Bonang will be the official celebrity schmoozer, poised inside the J&B marquee, and Somizi will be entertaining viewers with his tongue-in-cheek quips between ‘plebville’ and the hospitality village.

For the avid equestrians – SABC sports presenter Vaylen Kirtley will bring the viewers up to speed, giving you race side seats to all the latest from the track.

Says Risuna Mayimele, SABC3 Marketing Manager, “We are very excited to broadcast live to the nation. The channel is offering the best of both worlds – fashion and racing. We look foward to giving viewers an accurate and entertaining overview of the day’s activities – showcasing South African talent in more ways than one. We have decided to include lifestyle coverage to support the horse racing broadcast. We know that most people follow the race, not only for just the horses, but for the lifestyle element that comes with it as well. That is the reason SABC3 has decided to show the viewers the fashion as it happens.

We believe that the exciting foursome of Jeannie, Bonang, Somizi, and Vaylen is a make up of appealing hosts and that the presentation will be slick, entertaining and at times even humorous.”

The J&B Met will be broadcast live on SABC 3 on Saturday 02 February at 2:30pm to 5pm. Log onto the SABC3 Facebook page for the build-up this week, and follow the action on Twitter under the #MetOnSABC3 hashtag or @SABC3.

Happy New Year honeys bees!!

I trust you had an awesome holiday and had time to rest. My year has kicked off already.. Forbes Magazine has named me as one of the 13 African Celebrities To Watch In 2013. Can you say OMG!! Movie All Is Inferno (2016)

Being on a Forbes List is one of those things that has never crossed my mind and now that it’s happened, I realize how awesome my God is. He’ll open up the gates if you’re willing to do the work.

I’m the only South African female on the list and I’m joined by comedian Trevor Noah and music entrepreneur, DJ Sbu.

Words fail to describe this.. I’m in awe! Clearly 2013 is going to be bigger than I imagined it. Can’t wait!

Happy Mondays honey bees…

What an incredible year I’ve had. One of the toughest and most painful year of my life, but also the most fulfilling. I always say that God never puts you through something he knows you cannot handle, and I’m proof. He pulled me through it all then gave me my DREAM JOBS.

This year I started shooting Clash Of The Choirs SA and Top Billing, shot my first Destiny Magazine cover, was on the October cover of Elle Magazine, won a Glamour Award, was on the Forbe’s List, won a Feather Award, had my 1st tv production under my company BME (Bonang Matheba Entertainment) and bought myself a brand spanking new car, lol! I’m blessed beyond description and PROOF yet again, that when you work hard, God will meet you half way.

Thank you for supporting me and loving my craft, even Sunday Times Newspaper agrees with you. I’m their “IT” Girl for 2012 because of ALL the hard work I’ve put in. I’m grateful.

Thank you 2012 for teaching me to be strong, teaching me to be patient and teaching me to just have FAITH. I may not know what God is planning, but he’s always on MY side. And to YOU; be patient, everything will utlimately fall into place. It doesn’t make sense right now, but all will be ok..

Here’s to 2013!! See you next year… love, B*
