Hey guys. Happy Friday. It’s time for another edition of ‘meet the team behind the magic’, and today’s feature is on makeup artist Clara Chimeloane.

I strongly believe that makeup is meant to only magnify the beauty that already exists, and not create an illusion. Clara is one of those artists that have mastered the art and is also responsible for some of my red carpet #FaceBeats!

IMG_7859This mother of two from Soweto started her career in 2007, and worked at a makeup studio in Sandton. She is a cosmetology graduate and believes South Africa is on par with the rest of the world when it comes to the craft. She is working on dropping a cosmetics line soon.Roblox Robux Hack 2017

What was your biggest challenge when you first started, and how did you overcome it? My biggest challenge was trusting my techniques. I always felt that the way I did makeup was a little different from my fellow colleagues. Little did I know that I was using a method that worked best for me. I realised this about three years ago. Being different is good. Embrace it.

What’s most rewarding about your job? What makes it all worthwhile? I love seeing my clients shed a tear or excited when they see their face after by beat!

What are the most critical problems faced by young makeup artists? How do you think these problems should be handled? Young makeup artists want fame, and are never interested in the actual work and perfecting their craft. Once they’ve done two or three celebrities, they think they have arrived and can now over charge. Remember where you are and why you are there. Work hard and the rest will follow.

What’s your personal definition of success? I define success as reaching a goal that you’ve set for yourself. I believe I’m on my journey.

Any tips for young people that are interested in exploring the beauty industry? If you are willing to work hard, the industry can be amazing, lucrative and rewarding. Don’t expect the glitz and glam.

Red is one of my favourite colour, and I’ve been rocking it for Afternoon Express and for Top Billing recently. For me, it represents power, energy and love 😉

Slayage! Shooting for Top Billing, dress by Gert-Johan Coetzee, make-up by Clara Chimeloane.

Left: Panelled Satin Maxi dress, R1 240. This signature GJC dress features a lace panel insert and a front-drape neckline. I love the elegant waist tie, which completes the look.

Right: Twist Maxi Dress, R938. This gorgeous dress featured a plunging neckline with polka dot lace insert and a hi-lo fish-tail hemline.

Both dresses are from Gert-Johan Coetzee.

What’s your greatest asset on a dull autumn/ winter’s day? Having an amazing flawless skin! Well, Revlon SA recently released the new ColorStay Pressed Powder (and the stunning artwork) to help attain silky, smooth flawless finish.

Hey now. TGIF!

Behind every successful woman, is an army of trailblazers behind her, and I would like you to ‘meet the team behind my magic’, starting this Friday!

First up is Mozambican designer Taibo Bacar.

Taibo Bacar image

Who is Taibo Bacar? An incredible fashion designer! That’s who is he. As the son of a seamstress, Bacar was always surrounded by fabrics, the constant sounds of old school sewing machines and he occasionally designed for most of his mother’s clients.

His leap of faith… After studying Information Technology, he decided to relocate to Spain and pursued his childhood interest (he loved playing with fabrics) by enrolling for a course in design and pattern cutting at the Instituto Marangoni. The school, which is an Italian private institute, has campuses in Milan, London, Paris and Shanghai.

The birth of the brand TAIBO BACAR… Since its inception in 2008, the young designer has graced numerous magazine editorials, international fashion weeks and creates tailor-made dress for yours truly. He currently has two lines; TB (ready-to-wear) and TAIBO BACAR Couture, which focuses on high fashion.

wpid-bonang-matheba-in-taibo-bacar-bellanaija-december-2014002I first met Taibo at the 2012 AFI’s Fashion week, where he walked away with the Emerging Designer of the year in Africa. This amazing dress was part of his Spring/Summer collection in 2015. How GORG?!?

How he defines success… “Success for me is when your work is done with top quality materials, craftsmanship and is appreciated by your consumers. I think I am on the right track, but I still believe I can do better in terms of reaching the next level of perfection. That’s my everyday challenge; to offer my clients the best!”

IMG_7746I loved this off the runway look. It’s from the 2014 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa. So playful, yet so regal! I wore this number at the South African Style Awards.

His career trajectory…. He started doing mainly bespoke dressed for clients in Mozambique. Since showcasing his first collection in South Africa, he ventured out to other African countries such as Angola, Ivory Coast, Botswana, Nigeria to name just a few. He says, “I’ve also had a chance to showcase my work in Milan, Paris, Lisbon and Dubai. These shows gave my brand a chance to make bespoke dressed for clients outside of Mozambique. In 2014, we expanded our brand to feature accessories as well.

His tips for aspiring fashion designers… “Believe in your dream, and never stop working hard to achieve it.”

Hey!! Happy Tuesday!

I recently graced the cover of Forbes Woman Africa with millennials that are changing the face of entrepreneurship in Africa, and shared what it took to be a successful media entrepreneur in South Africa.

I thought I should share some extracts from the interview below. The issue is still available countrywide, so go get your copy and read the rest of my interview!

Forbes-Woman-Africa_February-and-March-2016-Issue

On destiny… I initially wanted to be a pre-school teacher. I am a Cancerian, a nurturer at heart, and I just wanted to work with children. At the age of 15, I decided to enroll for a television presenting course, and I am really grateful for that providence. I can’t imagine my life doing anything else.

On rejection… I was turned down at least 25 times before I landed SABC2’s Manhattan Fantasy. SABC1’s Live music show, which launched my career, rejected me six times. MetroFM and YFM ignored four and seven of my demos respectively. I also went through numerous Top Billing auditions without luck. I am very resilient. There’s always a voice at the back of my mind that says push, and push some more. I’ve learnt that they are not rejecting me as a person; it’s just that I am not what they are looking for at a particular time.Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)

On being a media entrepreneur… Entertainment has a very short life span. For me, longevity has always been a very big part of it. The only way you do it is by expanding your business because, let’s face it, I won’t look like this for the rest of my life and I understood that from a very young age.

On giving back… The year 2016 is all about giving back. I am currently sponsoring a young lady who wants to study her master’s. In September, I will be taking girls from across the country to a seven-day motivation camp. I will share more details regarding this initiative soon!!! Keep it locked on all my social media accounts and website.

We did it again! I walked away with the coveted Top Empowered Media Personality of the Year Award at the 15th annual Oliver Empowerment Awards, thanks to every person that voted for me. The award ceremony took at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg. Words can’t begin to express how grateful I am for the love and support.

1Behind the scene: Saadique working his magic on my hair. I enjoy getting glammed up before award shows. I am currently loving the 50’s Hollywood glam, which is inspired by Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco! There’s no quick and easy way to achieve this look, especially if you have a long weave.

2Muzi used Revlon to achieve this flawless look. For my eyes, he used ColourStay 16-Hour Eye Shadow in Decadent, Ultimate All-in-One Mascara and ColourStay Liquid Liner.

Tip: It really doesn’t matter if you love the ease of BB or CC creams, or you prefer more coverage using full-on foundation. The first step to having flawless makeup is ensuring your skin is cared for. Always cleanse, tone and moisturise daily, and apply a primer before your foundation.Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)

3My hairstyle from the back! I absolutely love the detailing of this dress. I paired it with some red sole shoes.

4The complete look! My custom-made dress was created by renowned fashion designer Taibo Bacar. I love the classic silhouette and the intricate detailing. The belt and earring by Taibo Bacar as well.

5With the Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor. She was one of the keynote speakers at the awards.

6Hey now! Receiving my award and thanking the organisers, my incredible team and every person that voted. It is an honor to be a recipient of the Oliver Empowerment Award for Media Personality, especially at a time where my personal mission and responsibilities as a celebrity are about empowering others to know that, you are enough to conquer your mountains – just by possessing abundant self-confidence and believe that you too can be unafraid to make mistakes and learn from them.
